2011 MLB Preview

by

Sports Illustrated doesn’t seem to like the Mets chances in this upcoming season, picking New York to finish dead last in the NL East with a projected record of 74-88. Meanwhile, ESPN thinks a little more highly of the Mets, picking New York to finish 3rd (though that may just be the typical “Eastern Sports Preferred Network” way of mildly exciting and deluding a starving fan base of a big market club.

Anyhow, I sit in the middle of the aforementioned. I have Boston overtaking Philadelphia in the World Series. I picked the Giants to win it all last year, but sadly I have no way to prove this. But, if I’m right this year, I’ll have Jason to thank for providing me the forum to show off my incredibly adventurous and risky (sarcasm) picks.

Here we go:

  5. Pittsburgh
  6. Houston

  3. Detroit
  4. Cleveland
  5. Kansas City

Your picks remind me of what many people’s NCAA Brackets look like. Lots of chalk.

Where in the hell are the 12/5 upsets?

In all seriousness, not sure where I can disagree. I like the Milwaukee over Cincy pick, but I think it will come down to the wire.

If I had to make a change I’m going with Colorado over the Giants in the NL West. Simply because I want to be a pain in the ass and disagree with you. Also, repeating is going to be tough for them I think. Especially if Brian Wilson has trouble staying healthy.

    Welcome aboard my man.

  2. Tom Says:

Come on, Jason. You and I both know that a 12/5 game is hardly an upset in the NCAA tournament. That’s why I’m actually awesome for not picking it. I am bold for going “chalk” in a world that wants to be “bold.”

P.S. Do you think Oakland is a favorite?

  3. Jason Says:

That was actually one I looked at giving you a hard time about. It would be so easy to go with Texas after the love affair everyone had with them in the Playoffs last season(me included). That worked out well…..

Once I looked at the A’s a little closer I realized how strong their starting pitching was. We baseball fans seemed to get duped when it comes to offense, but it is always the team like the Giants that winds up winning it all.

Then I compared them to their competition. Texas’ big negative is loosing Cliff Lee. I won’t mention what team he is currently playing for to prevent myself from vomiting in my mouth.

For a second I wanted to be cool and pick the Compton Angels or whatever they are called these days, but this isn’t 2002-2009.

So to end a long winded answer to a short question, yes I think Oakland is a legit favorite in the AL West.

Come on Jason, show some more love to the underdog Yankees

    Brandon

I was wondering when you would make your way over here to spew your Yankee nonsense.

Of course, you are more than welcome to share your pin striped clouded look at all things on this site. It certainly will add to the fun.

Unfortunately, for you I agree with Tom’s assessment that the Yanks will finish behind their hated nemesis the Red Sox.

    I assume you disagree?

    • Brandon Watson Says:

I’ld say I would not hand the red sox the division in April, the yankees struggle will be starting pitching and I believe the Yankees just need to stay in striking distance until mid summer, and with their bats that shouldn’t be a problem. At that time they will simply aquire another quality starter from a team having a fire sale and be right at the top again come October.

Oh and really like your site, just needed a classy Yankee to make it even better

      • Jason Says:

I’m glad you like the site. After such a nice compliment I hate to say this but I just can’t resist. Isn’t the term classy Yankee an oxymoron?

  6. Brandon Says:

Lol, I guess in the same way that post season success and the Mets is
