A very legitimate perspective, and thanks for sharing it with us.

If I had to sum up the "Reyes" decision, I place the blame strictly on the financial mess the Wilpons created. If they were more solvent, the front office would have been able to take on the financial risk of Jose being potentially injured or slowing down as he gets older. I'm certainly not pleased the Wilpons put the franchise in this position.

A Major League front office can only work with the budget they have. In that regard, I feel like Mr. Alderson and his staff are making the right decision.

I'm 100% with you on your thoughts about those who wish Jose ill will. There isn't a single one of them that would have turned down that offer if they were in Jose's shoes. Just upset Mets fans venting and misplacing their frustrations IMO.

It will be interesting to see how young Ruben responds to being the every day shortstop.

And yes, Let's Go Mets! I will still watch, and hope they figure out a way to win in 2012. .Even though rationally, I believe it is extremely unlikely. My willingness to drive or fly out to NY for a game this summer isn't great.. I will wait until I feel like the Mets can earn my $ in terms of tickets. At the end of the day, that is how our voice will be heard.

Imo, and as you say, no one should 'blame' Jose Reyes for accepting the only formal contract put out there for him, regardless of the amount involved.
I read the blogs every day and there were Mets 'fans' out there wishing him ill health, bad luck and sundry other negative things. I am not one of them. I say good luck to him and I wish him the best. When he was on our team on the field, he brought excitement and good play, and a lot of angst to opponents.
This is a business, and he saw the writing on the wall after the Wilpon's negative comments regarding him and DW, and Alderson's direction for the team with the stripping of all the large contracts.
NO ONE knows if he would have taken less to remain with the organization, regardless of what they claim. He had a lot of ties here and he did not go with Boras which is a big plus in my eyes. Contracts have been made for less money to begin with but other things besides.
I would have also been thoroughly offended by Alderson's 'send him a box of chocolate' comment if I was Jose, and I also thought Alderson's shilly-shallying comments to the fans about his dealings with Jose's agent etc was just stringing us along. He had NO intention of re-signing Reyes, and imo was using his comments to mollify the gullible. His plans were to take the team in a different direction.
Fortunately we fans have been so disillusioned and beaten down that we have become cynical and it is now a matter of 'yeah, right - now show me'.
Jose is gone to another team now. My major concern is with the Mets. When we play the Miami Marlins, I won't boo him or wish him ill, but I will want my team to beat his every chance we get.
Ruben has good instincts and excellent defensive skills, I think, and has his own shoes to fill. I'm sure he's working on the things he needs to improve his offensive play.
The Mets will always be my team, and I am looking forward to an interesting season of baseball. We saw glimmers of it last season and I'm hoping for more this year. Rebuilding takes time, and the maturation of the guys in the farm system and the majors should be interesting and hopefully fun to watch :)
As always - LETS GO METS! LETS GO METS! LETS GO METS!
